Cobras strike in the Southern Football League

Cove made it two-from-two to start the season after defeating Noarlunga by 29 points during round 2 action in the Southern Football League (SFL) at Hallett Cove on Saturday. The Cobras led at every change before winning 15.13 (103) to 11.8 (74). Cohen Shortridge was the standout forward for the Cobras with six goals, while Ryan Need slotted three majors. Brad Inglis kicked five goals for the Shoes, while Nick Mott kicked three goals. Best players for Cove were Max Sweet, James Farrugia, Shortridge, Christopher Buersch and Lincoln Holder. Mott, Inglis, Aaron Killian, Jacob Taylor and Nicholas Robertson were named best for Noarlunga. 


Flagstaff Hill remained top of the ladder with a second resounding victory of the season, this time by 170 points against Aldinga. The Falcons led by 77 points at halftime, before kicking a further 17 goals to three in the second half to run out winners 30.19 (199) to 4.5 (29). Flagstaff Hill had an amazing 18 different goalkickers with Blake Aldridge (5) and Michael Shearer (3) leading the way. Reece Milsom, Cameron Blake, Aidan Carney, Jaxon Bennett, Aldridge and Brayden Heyward-Ferors. Best players for the Sharks included Tom Pilmore, Thomas Boreham and Izaih Wortley.



Port Noarlunga are also undefeated after winning a high-scoring game against Ironbank Cherry Gardens by 34 points at Cherry Gardens on Saturday. ‘Porties’ played a great first half to lead by 53 points at halftime. The Thunderers came right back into the competition, kicking eight goals to three in the third quarter, as the margin was reduced to 23 points at the last change. The Cockle Divers steadied in the final term to win 21.19 (145) to 17.9 (111). Port Noarlunga had eight different goalkickers with Zac Sproule leading the way with eight goals, while Jak Goudman-Glasson kicked five majors for the Thunderers. Best players for ‘Porties’ were Todd Mckay, Sproule, Ryan Kelly, Charley Wiseman, Brodie Smith and Billy Cook. Ironbank Cherry Gardens were well led by Dylan Kahl, Ben Marsh, Goudman-Glasson, Alec Bryars, Chase Wooley and Fletcher Nield.


Happy Valley won their first game of the season after a convincing 188-point win at home against Morphett Vale. The Vikings led by 36 points at quarter time, 98 points at halftime and 136 points at the last change, before winning 29.24 (198) to 1.4 (10). Happy Valley had 13 different goalkickers with Nick Kraemer (6), Cooper Rogers (4) and Billy Wilson (3) leading the way. Rogers, Harry Spacie, Kraemer, Liam Hamilton, Dylan Strickland and Ben Tate were named as best players for the Vikings, while the Emus best included Vincent Tassone, Connor Panozzo and Toby Irlam.


Reigning premier Reynella are second on the ladder after winning their second game in a row with a 41-point win against Christies Beach at Bice Oval on Saturday. The Wine Flies led at every change to win 12.12 (84) to 6.7 (43). Bailey Marshman (5) and Brad Potter (3) were the multiple wicket takers for Reynella, while Brad Jackson kicked two goals for the Saints. Talon Copley was named best for the Wine Flies and he was well supported by Alex Lawley, Marshman, Tyler Davies, Jack Stiles and Mitchell Scotland. Best players for ‘Christies’ were Tom Paparella, Nathan Sable, Callum Bennett, Shannon Archbold, Joshua Semmens and Thomas Kirwan.
