Cobras strike to keep their finals hopes alive in the Southern Football League

Cove kept their finals hopes alive with an important 46-point win against Port Noarlunga during round 15 action in the Southern Football League (SFL) at Hallett Cove yesterday. The Cobras won every quarter on their way to a 18.12 (120) to 10.14 (74) victory. Lincoln Holder and Ryan Need kicked four goals each for Cove, while Ciaran O’Hagan kicked three goals for the Cockle Divers. Best players for the Cobras included Michael Galley, Scott Abbott, Holder, Dean Hancock and Jayden Morton. Best for Port Noarlunga were Billy Cook, Gary Karpany, Darren Walters, Tom Redden and O’Hagan.


Flagstaff Hill continued their undefeated season after defeating Morphett Vale by 34 points yesterday. Morphett Vale led by six points at halftime in a low-scoring encounter, before ‘Flaggies’ took over in the second half, kicking six goals to one, to run out winners 8.16 (64) to 4.6 (30). Sam Smith kicked three goals for ‘Flaggies’, as did Blake Carter for the Emus. Best players for Flagstaff Hill included Adam Bunworth, Brad Kirk, Leith Mitchell, Huw Channing and Mackenzie Short. Morphett Vale were best served by Dylan Miller, Robert Schindler-Taylor, Scott Carpenter, Aiden Baker and Brian Gill.


Reynella wrapped up the double chance with a 19-point win at Happy Valley. The Wine Flies won every quarter on the way to a 11.8 (74) to 8.7 (55) triumph. Teenager Tom Schirmer kicked five goals for Reynella, while Corey Grocock slotted three majors for the Vikings. Jack Ball was named best for Reynella and he was well supported by Eddy Roberts, Jacob McDonald, Tyler Davies and Marc Borholm. Matthew Lillis, Grocock, Joel Beeche, Hayden Kari and Liam O’Connor were named best for Happy Valley.


Noarlunga consolidated second position on the ladder with a comprehensive 103-point victory at Old Noarlunga yesterday. The Shoes led by 43 points at three-quarter time, before kicking 9.6 to 0.0 in the final term to win 16.16 (112) to 1.3 (9). The Shoes had 10 different goalkickers with Bailey Hann kicking three. Tom Pilmore kicked the only goal for Aldinga. Nathan Schulz was named best-on-ground for Noarlunga, with Hann, Jaiden Kappler, Beau Donaldson, Jake Anderson and Josh Beard also playing well for the Shoes. Best for the Sharks included Josiah Sheppard, Angus Stangewitz and Bailey Pilmore.
