Cobras strike top spot in the Southern Football League Women's competition

Cove went to the top of the Southern Football League Women’s (SFLW) competition after defeating Flagstaff Hill by 11 points during round 15 action at Hallett Cove yesterday. Cove jumped out the blocks to lead by 20 points at quarter time, before the Falcons worked themselves back into the game to lead by a point at the last change. The Cobras steadied to kick three goals to one in the last term to win 9.3 (57) to 7.4 (46). Ella Gill (3) and Rebecca O’Shaughnessy (2) were the major goalkickers for the Cobras, while Jessica Couch (3) and Melanie Koster (2) were the multiple goalkickers for Flagstaff Hill. Best players for the Cobras included Angelique Dean, Gill, Lauren Kenny, Georgia Hayford, Dana O'Brien and Jemima Buss. ‘Flaggies’ best players were Koster, Tiana Lush, Abbie Butler, Brooke May, Ava Knuckey and Kaitlyn Aldridge.


Port Noarlunga kept the pressure on for top spot after defeating Reynella by 41 points yesterday. The game was tight in the first half as ‘Porties’ led by nine points at the main break. Port Noarlunga came out firing in the third term, kicking six unanswered goals, to take an unassailable 47-point lead with a quarter to go. Reynella kept on battling, kicking the only goal of the last quarter, before the Cockle Divers won 8.9 (57) to 2.4 (16). Kalahni Howes (4) and Shanika Roberts-Yeend (2) were the leading goalkickers for Port Noarlunga, while their best players were Schanna L'Estrange, Eilish O’Hanlon, Howes, Amber O'Hanlon, Maddy Craggs and Tegan Lane. Best players for the Wine Flies included Miller Thompson, Tabitha Melders, Summer Weir, Isabelle Bruhn, Tayla Wright and Scarlett Bradford.



Blackwood won their seventh game of the season after defeating Ironbank Cherry Gardens by 13 points. The Woods led at every change before winning 10.10 (70) to 8.9 (57). Best players for the finals-bound Blackwood side were Lily Brook, Olivia Emes, Lila Cormack-Pinder, Caitlin Hill, Jade Quinn and Jaymie Cobby. The Thunderers best players included Olivia Walker-Obushak, Jesse Smith, Charlotte Pointon, Tahlia Ward, Jesse Grigg and Estelle McPhee.


Aldinga won their fourth game of the season after a 20-point win at Hackham yesterday. Taryn Vizgaudis kicked four goals for the Sharks as they won 7.11 (53) to 5.3 (33). The Sharks’ best were Daisy Barber, Elkie Cairns, Audrey Worthley, Emmerson Pope, Zoe De Kievit and Vizgaudis. Meanwhile, best for the Hawks included Ashton Gaskell, Shayley MacFadyen, Samantha Smyth, Rikki-Lee Escritt, Kate Moore and Jolande Winson (2 goals). 


Christies Beach had the bye.
