Cobras take big scalp in Southern Women's A grade

Cove won their ninth game of the season and in the process handed reigning premier Port Noarlunga their first loss in 2025 during round 12 action in the Southern Football League Women’s (SFLW) competition at Hallett Cove on Sunday. The Cobras started well to lead by 20 points at the first change but by three-quarter time, the match was level. Cove finished the stronger, kicking the only two goals of the final term, to win 7.8 (50) to 5.6 (36). Angelique Dean was named best for Cove and she received good support from Ashleigh Need, Emily Risitano, Jaime Norup, Dana O'Brien and Tamara Harrison. Best for ‘Porties’ included Abby Dittmar, Maddy Craggs, Kalahni Howes, Zoe Flesfadar, Amelia Hardy and Hope Elliott.


Ironbank Cherry Gardens won their second game of the season with a 27-point victory at Christies Beach. Ironbank Cherry Gardens skipper Olivia Walker-Obushak kicked four goals in a best-on-ground display as her side ran out winners 8.6 (54) to 4.3 (27). Other good players for the Thunderers were Tahlia Ward, Estelle McPhee, Charlotte Pointon, Lauren Kahl and Hayley Rutter. Lauren Chomel kicked three goals for the Saints to be named their best player and she received good support from Tara Vivar-Hayes, Chloe Brooks, Maisie Hunt, Montanna Hartley and Bella Wheatley.


Flagstaff Hill moved up to second spot on the ladder after a comfortable 81-point win against Blackwood. The Falcons led by 18 points at quarter time, 46 points at halftime and 67 points at the last change, before winning 11.17 (83) to 0.2 (2). Abbie Butler (3), Rachel Crockart (2) and Brooke May (2) were the leading goalkickers for ‘Flaggies’, while their best players included Tiana Lush, Melanie Koster, May, Crockart, Butler and Nicole O'Connor. Best for the ‘Woods’ were Jaymie Cobby, Tyler Attiwill, Ella Parris, Lily Brook and Sophie Parker.


Reynella consolidated their spot in the top-four with a 56-point win over Aldinga. Sarah Bourn kicked four goals as the Wine Flies won 8.10 (58) to 0.2 (2). Reynella’s best players were Tayla Wright, Sienna Garner, Ashlee Wright, Bourn, Latysha Jackson and Elysia Hammond. Elkie Cairns, Molly Reynolds, Zoe De Kievit, Jessamy Stanway, Isla Hunt and Holly Wilde were named best for the Sharks.
