Cockle Divers celebrate their first win in the Southern Football League Women's competition

Port Noarlunga won their first game in the Southern Football League Women’s (SFLW) competition after defeating Hackham by 47 points at Hackham on Saturday. The Cockle Divers dominated the opening term with 11 scoring shots to zero but were inaccurate as they kicked 3.8 to lead by 26 points at quarter time. ‘Porties’ extended their lead out to 41 points at halftime and a huge win looked on the cards. To the Hawks’ credit, they fought out the second half, allowing just one more goal for Port Noarlunga, but in the end the girls in Blue & White were too strong as they won 6.14 (50) to 0.3 (3). Bridie Nye kicked two goals in a best on ground performance for the Cockle Divers. Other good players for the winners included Madison Harris, Sheridan Poland, Sam Lynch and Kaiya Ivett. Best for Hackham was Chrysti Flevill, Alana Browne, Hannah Crump, Emily Hateley-Watson and Atalia Stalman. 


Reynella continued their unbeaten start to the 2021 season with a comfortable 45-point win at home against Cove. The Wine Flies got off to a fast start as they kicked 4.2 to 0.0 in the first term to lead by 26 points at quarter time. They extended their lead out to 44 points at halftime and to 63 points with a quarter to go. To the Cobras credit they fought the game out to the end, kicking two goals to none in the last term but ultimately Reynella were too strong as they won 11.5 (71) to 3.8 (26). Caitlin Williams kicked three goals for Reynella and she was ably supported by Allana Nimmo-Lyne and Emily Franklin who each slotted two majors. Alesia Leduff, Jaime Norup and Felicity Oliver were the goalkickers for the Cobras. Grace Doran was named best for Reynella and she was joined on the best player list by Ella Besley, Williams, Franklin and Madison Bennett. Cove were well served by Dana O’Brien, Emma Fitzpatrick, Oliver, Rebecca O’Shaughnessy and Lauren Pattimore. 


Christies Beach kept the heat on the top two with a comfortable 54-point win at Aldinga on Sunday. The Saints started strongly as they led by 35 points at halftime before Aldinga fought back in the third term to reduce the margin to 29 points at the last change. Christies steadied in the final term as they banged on four goals to zero to win 9.7 (61) to 1.1 (7). Brooke O’Brien kicked three goals for the Saints while Emily Risitano kicked two majors. Amber O’Hanlon kicked the only goal for the Sharks. Paige Simmons, Rachael Farlam, Hannah Clarke, Neriah Milis and Monique Hepden were best for Christies while for Aldinga, Amber O’Hanlon, Holly Rowe, Vanessa Chambers, Jemma Looyestyn and Jessika O’Hanlon were their best players. 


Flagstaff Hill had the bye.
