With housing developments proliferating across the region, the City of Victor Harbor will host two community open days to gather feedback on its draft Urban Growth Management Strategy.
Influenced by community consultation earlier in 2024, the strategy aims to guide growth to 2050. It is available to view online and at the Civic Centre, on Bay Road.
The open days will be held at the council chambers on Thursday 14 and Saturday 16 November, with half-hour sessions available to discuss the future of Victor Harbor in-person with the project team.
City of Victor Harbor Mayor Moira Jenkins says the Urban Growth Management Strategy (UGMS) is an opportunity for the Victor Harbor community to take agency over how the region will develop.
“Our Urban Growth Management Strategy is an important step in declaring how we want our town to evolve in the future," she says.
“Growth is inevitable, however the Urban Growth Management Strategy is an opportunity for us to manage that growth while protecting what we love about our region.”
Chief Executive Officer Victoria MacKirdy says the timing of the draft strategy consultation is ideal, as it coincides with the state government-led Greater Regional Adelaide Plan (GARP) consultation.
“The UGMS is Victor Harbor directing how we wish to grow. It is our council and community providing evidenced-based, local strategy to our state counterparts to place ourselves in the best position we can to evolve on our terms.”
