The Yankalilla Library will host the premiere launch of the film Murder in the Library On Sunday 10 September.
The film is a unique collaborative project between the library, Yankalilla Youth Theatre and the local community.
This event promises to bring together the essence of the district's history, culture and talent on the silver screen.
It is a celebration of the culmination of the Common Threads project, which showcases the community’s creativity and collaborative spirit.
The Common Threads project was conceived as a grant application to the Libraries Board Innovation Fund in March 2022.
Originating during a period when the Yankalilla Library was operating out of the Civic Centre as the new library was under construction, the project was developed as a means to fulfil the library's mission of fostering community connections.
The initial vision aimed to curate, create and celebrate local personalities through a series of filmed portraits, to expand the library's digital outreach and showcase the anticipated facilities and services.
However, the journey took a different path, with the involvement of three local visionaries – Evette Wolf, Kell Burgess and Wendy McPhee – who collaborated closely with Library Officer Kathryn Prenzler and film-maker Mikey Hill.
Together, they reimagined the project to create Murder in the Library, a film set against the backdrop of the new library.
This innovative concept integrates the talents of the Yankalilla Youth Theatre participants with a diverse group from the community, fostering intergenerational connections.
This free event will run from 1pm to 4pm; the deadline for bookings in Friday 1 September via email or phone 8558 2043.
