The City of Onkaparinga is consulting the community about the western section of Button Road at the Aldinga Washpool Lagoon.
Button road provides access to the Washpool and to the beach; it includes a car park and a ramp at the western end.
The council wants to get a clear picture on the issues important to the community and what it values about this section of Button road.
Much of the Washpool is part of the Aldinga Conservation Park, which is cared for by the Department of Environment and Water’s (DEW) parks department.
DEW is developing an Aldinga Conservation Park Management Plan, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
The 340-hectare park was proclaimed in January 2022, consolidating several culturally and environmentally significant parcels of conservation land.
It comprises the ecologically valuable Aldinga Washpool site, a rare ephemeral freshwater wetland, and the former Aldinga Scrub Conservation Park land.
The area includes 67 hectares of high biodiversity land, which provides valuable habitat for at least 79 native species. Details can be viewed on the DEW website.
The community can provide feedback via the council’s Your Say page until Sunday 3 December.
