The Port Elliot Town and Foreshore Improvement Association (PETFIA) is looking to establish a community garden in the township.
Association member Ian Nuberg will facilitate a working group to get the garden idea off the ground.
A teacher of Horticulture at the University of Adelaide’s School of Agriculture, Food and Wine, Ian has been investigating potential sites on council-owned land.
With support from Alexandrina Council the working group will help choose the plot of land and present options for different types and styles of gardens for public vote.
Anyone interested in joining the development group should email Ian.
PETFIA is a community group that takes a ‘hands on’ approach to improving Port Elliot’s amenity, as well as lobbying for the town’s interests.
It recently held a 12-week trial to divert dog waste from landfill by monitoring, collecting and weighing waste at the Port Elliot Dog Park.
The results of the trial will inform future dog waste diversion projects in the township, which have been postponed while the dog park is closed due to social distancing restrictions during the Covid-19 crisis.
