The Friends of Port Elliot Community Garden have launched their sponsor-a-tree program to raise funds to further develop the garden.
The garden has come a long way since the soil was first turned last autumn and with wicking beds and a veggie patch established the garden’s next stage is a small fruit orchard.
It will start with 25 fruit trees, including apple, apricot, nectarine, peach, pear, plum, almond, quince, pomegranate, fig and feijoa.
The community gardeners are calling for sponsors to pledge $40 towards the new trees.
They hope to start planting soon.
Potential sponsors can contact the garden via Facebook, or call in to the garden at Reserve 60, at the end of Elliot Street, any Thursday morning to have a look around the developing community project.
