Last Wednesday 16 August the Fleurieu Foundation hosted its annual homelessness forum at Port Elliot Bowling Club.
Various organisations that work at the coal face to assist people experiencing homelessness addressed those in attendance.
Those represented included Whalers Emporium, the Salvation Army, South Coast Christian Community Care and Junction.
Finniss MP David Basham says presenters shared about the hidden aspect of homelessness that may not be explicitly visible to the community.
People experiencing homelessness may be staying with friends while navigating a housing solution and although these challenges may not be easily seen, they are real struggles for some.
Salvation Army Captain Nathan Hodges praised the community for their goodwill towards people in need of assistance.
He explained the best way to channel compassion is to be informed about the work of local charity organisations and consider contributing by volunteering, donating or advocating.
“I commend Brad Butler and the Fleurieu Foundation for their ongoing initiative in bringing people together to raise funds, awareness and advocacy for Homelessness in our community,” Mr Basham says.
