Sustainable Onkaparinga will hold a public information session on the Harmful Algal Bloom at The Arts Centre, in Port Noarlunga, on Thursday 7 August.
It has been organised by the City of Onkaparinga for residents and businesses understand the causes, impacts and the response by all levels of government.
Renowned marine scientist Dr Faith Coleman will speak at the session, joined by a panel of experts.
The aim is to provide answers and support for those affected by the impact of the algal bloom on the coastline, resulting in the death of thousands of marine animals in recent months.
It will run from 6pm to 8pm and there will be a livestream to enable access for those who can’t attend in person. Bookings via Eventbrite are essential for both in-person and livestream attendance.
In a separate event there will be a beach vigil for marine life on Saturday 9 August at 5.30pm at Port Noarlunga jetty.
The community is asked to take along a candle to shine a light on the impact of the algal bloom and climate change, marking the death of thousands of marine creatures from hundreds of species.
The state government's algal bloom information website provides the latest updates on the situation.
