Community meeting to discuss Voice to Parliament

The McLaren Flat Community Club will host a public meeting on the upcoming referendum on an Indigenous Voice to Parliament on at 6 pm on Thursday 31 August.

It will be chaired by Barry Camfield and the key speaker will be Megan Hender, a lawyer and consultant.

The referendum will ask voters to answer yes or no to a single question.

“A Proposed Law: to alter the Constitution to recognise the First Peoples of Australia by establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice.

Do you approve this proposed alteration?”

The meeting will discuss the proposed constitutional change and the risks and benefits of voting yes or no.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has said he will announce the date for the referendum when he visits Adelaide on Wednesday 30 august.

It must be held between October and December, and 14 October is widely suggested to be the most likely date.

More information about the Voice referendum can be found online.
