City of Onkaparinga is calling for pre-registration for its annual community tree giveaway, to be held on the afternoon of Sunday 15 June at Aldinga Community Centre.
The council is offering up to four free native trees to Onkaparinga households, local community groups and small businesses as part of its One Tree Per Child Onkaparinga partnership.
The pollinator-friendly tree species available include Cross-leaved Honey-myrtle, Myrtle Wattle, Prickly Tea-Tree and Heath Tea-Tree.
They are provided as tubestock, to give them the best chance of thriving when planted, and will grow to a maximum height of 3-4 metres.
Trees for Life volunteers have grown the trees using local remnant seed and Arborgreen will supply free tree guards and stakes to help protect the plantings.
Pre-registration is open until Friday 13 June, or until capacity is reached, which will guarantee trees will be ready for collection on the day. Register online.
One Tree Per Child Onkaparinga is a partnership between the council, One Tree Per Child, Green Adelaide, Arborgreen and Trees For Life.
