Considering coastal adaptation

The City of Onkaparinga is preparing a coastal adaptation plan to provide a planned response to the recommendations of its 2021 Coastal Adaptation Study.

It has invited the community to take part in the planning process and help shape the plan by providing feedback on the coastal adaptation options under consideration.

The study showed that some of the Onkaparinga coastline needs to be monitored to identify and respond to future risks.

Some of the coastline has already been identified as at a higher level of risk.

The council is exploring options for responding to these risks and adapting to coastal change.

It says its about using an evidence-based approach to make sure it takes the right actions in the right locations so everyone can continue to enjoy the coast.

Fact sheets, FAQs and the plan progress report can be found on the council website

There is also a survey to provide feedback on the Coastal Adaptation Plan.

The council will hold three community drop-in sessions and an online webinar during August to provide information on the plan and outline available options.

The community can give feedback at these sessions and register interest in becoming coastal citizen scientists.

They will be at Moana Surf Life Saving Club from 6.30pm to 8pm on Thursday 10 August; Christies Beach Surf Life Saving Club from 6.30pm to 8pm on Wednesday 16 August; and Aldinga Library from 11am to 12.30pm on Thursday 17 August.

The webinar will also be on Thursday 17 August from 2pm to 3pm.

Go to the Onkaparinga YourSay page to register to attend any of these sessions.

The deadline for feedback is Sunday 3 September.
