Council and police team up for scams presentations

A collaboration between the Alexandrina Council and Hills Fleurieu police saw scams awareness presentations delivered at Strathalbyn and Goolwa last week.

Over 60 locals gathered at the Strathalbyn and Goolwa libraries to hear from police about the types of scams that are circulating, red flags to look out for, how to keep safe online and where to get support.

The presenters answered a range of questions from attendees with a focus that if you are unsure about a text message or email, it's best to check with family or friends first.

Acting Sergeant Perry from Hills Fleurieu Crime Prevention thanked local residents for their participation saying, "We had great attendance across both sessions and a very engaging crowd."

Alexandrina Council Chief Executive Officer Andrew MacDonald said, “Alexandrina Council hosts a range of community education sessions at our libraries because our residents have told us they want Council to provide opportunities to connect and to access information about a range of topics, particularly digital literacy. We know that scams are a concern for our community, so we are pleased that SAPOL were able to provide these sessions for us.”

The Hills Fleurieu crime prevention team are committed to working with the community to promote safe communities within the region.
