Council support for small business on the south coast was the focus for the latest Women in Business Regional Network lunch in Victor Harbor.
The function, at the Hotel Crown, attracted more than 30 local businesswomen to hear speakers from the City of Victor Harbor, Alexandrina Council and Business Victor Harbor about the response to COVID-19 and the type of support available to local business.
Lisa O’Donoghue, Alexandrina’s Economic Development Manager, provided details about the new Goolwa Business Hub in the former ANZ Bank premises, which provides co-working, meeting and workshop space and also plays host regularly to ‘experts in residence’ to provide advice to business.
Mark Przibilla, Victor Harbor’s Manager Planning and Activations, outlined the City of Victor Harbor’s new approach to economic development and encouraged the women to put their views forward in a forthcoming public consultation on the council’s Economic Development Strategy.
The chair of Business Victor Harbor, Michael Schubert, introduced Renee Ancell, the new business support executive, and outlined some of the changes that had occurred in recent months with the organisation, including a new partnership with Business SA.
Those present took the opportunity to congratulate member Leanne Reynolds on the recent naming of Veg Out as the Best Greengrocer in country South Australia. Leanne is one of the joint owners of Veg Out and Goolwa Foodland.
The next Victor Harbor function will be a dinner on Thursday, September 3 at The Boulevard Café by the Lake, when the topic for discussion will be Making Quality Connections, which is particularly important for business owners who may be finding it more difficult to make customer, supplier or collaboration connections during COVID-19 restrictions.
The Women in Business Regional Network is open to business owners, managers, staff and those dreaming of owning their own business. You don’t have to be a member to attend events but bookings are essential via Eventbrite.com.au.
