Business and industry are the key drivers of economic development which is why we celebrate the G'day Group’s recent acquisition of the McCracken Country Club.
The G'day Group purchased the McCracken Country Club, along with the Goolwa Camping and Tourist Park and the Hahndorf Resort to diversify its portfolio amid a strong COVID recovery, adding an estimated $60 million in SA tourism assets to their business.
The company announced this week that it plans to upgrade the McCracken Country Club, enhancing the accommodation offering and golf course while making the property more family-friendly.
CEO of G'day Group, Grant Wilckens said that that the company sees the huge potential to take McCracken to the next level.
“These plans are still under wraps, but we hope it will become a hero property for the Fleurieu,” says Grant.
McCracken Country Club General Manager Stuart Riddell, who was recently appointed to the Board of Business Victor Harbor, said the plans by G'day Group to upgrade the resort will have a flow on effect on business and industry in Victor Harbor and surrounds.
"This is an exciting development for the South Coast and such a large investment will have a significant flow on effect in the community, creating more jobs within the Resort and supporting local industry and trades with the planned infrastructure development," Stuart Riddell says.
"McCracken Country Club has seen strong growth in occupancy rates and casual green golf bookings since COVID hit back in March and this recent announcement is only going to enhance the resort's offering. Hopefully what we will see is our guests staying longer and in turn spending more time and money in Victor Harbor," he says.
"The tourism and visitation sector are the economic 'primary pillars' for Victor Harbor and a catalyst for stimulating businesses and jobs across other important sectors," said Chairman of Business Victor Harbor, Michael Schubert.
"Industry in Victor Harbor has got a long way to go to change the consumer experience and perception of our beautiful region and to meet visitor expectations, but this announcement proves that we are well on our way," he says.
McCracken Country Club boasts 65 rooms, two restaurants, and international championship standard 18- hole course and bottle shop. The resort is a popular conference and wedding venue, with panoramic valley views, just minutes from the beach.
