Cove Cobras have won back-to-back SFLW premierships with a thrilling five-point win over minor premier Aldinga Sharks in the Grand Final at Aldinga yesterday. It was only the second loss of the season for Aldinga. After winning the premiership in 2018, the Cobras got off to a very slow start in 2019, winning just one of their first seven games before rattling home and winning 10 of their last 12 matches to claim the flag.
Aldinga started well kicking two first-quarter goals to lead by five points at quarter time. Cove hit back in the second stanza kicking two goals while keeping the Aldinga scoreless to take a handy seven-point lead into the main break. It was game on after the third term where the Sharks kicked the only goal of the quarter and the Cobras took a slender two-point lead into the final term of the season. The last quarter was a real slog with Cove having numerous chances to seal the game but they could only manage four behinds but they clung on as Aldinga went goalless and Cove celebrated their 3.6 (24) to 3.1 (19) victory.
Jaime Norup, Samantha Franson, Renee Ullrich, Lauren Kenny and Dana O’Brien were best for Cove while Madison Russell, Allana Stangewitz, Charlotte Bayford, Kimberly Robinson and Lauren Ferors were best for a brave Aldinga.
