Cove Cobras start SFLW premiership defence with a win over Morphett ValeCove Cobras players celebrate their round one win over Morphett Vale.

Cove Cobras launched their Southern Football League Women's (SFLW) premiership defence in the best way possible with a convincing 38-point victory over Morphett Vale at Cove. The Cobras made a fast start to lead by 21 points at quarter time, holding the Emus scoreless in the process. Morphett Vale got on the board with a couple of goals in the second term but Cove extended their lead marginally at the long break to 23 points.A further three goals to one in the second half saw Cove eventually win 8.11 (59) to 3.3 (21). Aidene Parr kicked two goals for Cove while Alana Tuohy-Lashmar, Parr, Jaime Norup, Renee Ullrich and Dana O’Brien were named in the Cobras best players. Kate Dunn kicked two goals for Morphett Vale and the Emus best were Hannah Armstrong, Shannon Foster, Katelyn Wilson, Dunn and Amber Kennedy-Murphy.


Christies Beach celebrated their first game in the SFLW competition with a 24-point win over Flagstaff Hill at Christies. In a low scoring first half, the home side led by 11 points at the long break, 2.1 (13) to 0.2 (2). Both sides kicked one goal each in the third quarter as the Saints turned for home still leading by 11 points. Christies made the game safe in the final quarter, kicking two goals to zero to win 5.3 (33) to 1.3 (9). Kelly Armstrong was the sole multiple goalkicker on the day as she kicked two goals for the victors. Melanie Koster was named best for the Saints and she was joined in the best players by Armstrong, Casie Coombe, Hannah Crump and Maddeline Gladdis. Flagstaff Hill were best served by Hannah Griffin, Alana Baker, Riley Mitchell, Jenna Andrews and Katherine Wise while Kelsey Rodman was the Falcons sole goal kicker.


Reynella has started their season with a bang following a crushing 73-point win over 2019 runners-up Aldinga at Reynella Oval. After a tight opening quarter saw the home side lead by just seven points, Reynella took control from then on as they kicked 10 goals in the final three quarters to win 11.7 (73) to 0.0 (0). Emily Wood was a star for the Wine Flies with five goals in a best on ground performance. Olivia Gallio, Shanique West, Rebecca Denyer and Zannah Loxton were also named in the best for Reynella. For Aldinga Jaimi Griffen, Jemma Looyestyn, Nikki Duggan, Brooke Mawer and Jean-Louiise Papps battled hard all day.
