Cove Cobras Women on the board in the Southern Football League

Cove won their first game of the 2021 season with a 33-point win against Aldinga on Sunday during round three action in the Southern Football League Women’s (SFLW) competition. The Cobras got off to a good start and took a handy 26-point lead into halftime. Aldinga battled hard in the second half but it was a bridge too far as Cove kept their home crowd happy as they won 7.8 (50) to 2.5 (17). Alesia Leduff kicked five goals for Cove in a best on ground display. She was ably supported by Lara Ward, Dana O’Brien, Jahna Perry and Seraphina Moon. Eilish O’Hanlon, Kiara Lovett, Ayla Regione, Amber O’Hanlon and Taeh Ferrari were named in the best players for Aldinga.


Reynella continued their undefeated start to the season with a convincing 85-point win at home against Port Noarlunga. The Wine Flies led by 13 points at quarter time, 30 points at halftime and 55 points at the last change, before running out winners 14.9 (93) to 1.2 (8). Rebecca Denyer continued her good goal kicking form as she slotted seven majors to give her 13 goals for the season from three games. Emily Franklin, Ella Besley, Denyer, Georgia Pennifold and Renee Wurfel were named best for Reynella. For Port Noarlunga, Claire Murphy, Kaiya Ivett and Samantha Lynch were among their best players.


Reigning premier Flagstaff Hill put an end to Christies Beach undefeated start to the season following an impressive 45-point victory at Bice Oval on Sunday. Flagstaff Hill opened up a 28-point lead at halftime but it could have been even more as they kicked an inaccurate 5.10 (40) to 2.0 (12). A further three goals to one in the second half saw the Falcons win 8.15 (63) to 3.0 (18). Emily Brockhurst kicked five goals in a best on ground performance for the Falcons. Jenna Andrews, Alana Baker, Brooke Kleinig and Riley Mitchell were also named in the best players for ‘Flaggies’. Brooke O’Brien, Angelique Dean, Casie Coombe, Tayler Poland and Paige Simmons were best for the Saints.
