Another Fleurieu event has been caught in the Covid-19 firing line.
This year’s Fleurieu Folk Festival will be cancelled because of the global pandemic, it was announced on the festival’s Facebook page and website last week. However, there's still good news for folk fans, with the committee planning to run some smaller events.
The post said, “With heavy hearts, the Committee of the Fleurieu Folk Festival has made the hard decision to cancel the 2020 Festival”.
“It has not been an easy decision, but we feel that we must place the health of our friends, performers, volunteers and community first, due to the current COVID-19 circumstances within Australia.
“We apologise for the disappointment caused by this cancellation and the Committee would like to thank you for your continued support during these turbulent and uncertain times and we eagerly look forward to seeing you again in 2021.”
The committee has promised to present some smaller events throughout the year, and encourages music lovers to keep an eye on the festival’s website and Facebook page, and sign up to the mailing list, for information.
The committee says those who have pre-purchased tickets for 2020 will be given information about how to receive a refund or how to transfer tickets to the 2021 festival.
The 2020 festival was scheduled for 23-25 October and would have been the 14th event.
The volunteer-run festival is held at the Willunga Recreation Park and showcases local, interstate and international artists from the traditional and contemporary folk, acoustic, Celtic, blues, musical theatre, Americana, roots and bluegrass genres.
Last year’s event was headlined by country singer-songwriter and host of ABC radio’s Saturday Night Country, Felicity Urquhart, from New South Wales.
