The City of Victor Harbor has temporarily suspended the weekday Justice of the Peace (JP) service offered at its Civic Centre.
This decision was made to ensure the safety of JPs and their customers due to the increased risks associated with COVID-19.
A JP acts as an independent and objective witness to documents people use for official or legal purposes.
They may be able to assist with certifying a true copy of an original document, certifying a person's identity, witnessing an affidavit for use in court, witnessing a statutory declaration, or witnessing the signing of a document.
The Victor Harbor service is usually offered from 11am to 1pm Monday to Wednesday and from 2pm to 4pm Thursday and Friday.
The council will review the suspension in late February and will advise of any further changes to services on its website.
Alternative Justice of the Peace services can be found on the state Attorney General's website.
