Crushers keep finals hopes alive in Great Southern Cricket

McLaren Districts are in a good position after day one of their clash with Mt Compass during round 11 action in the Great Southern Cricket Association (GSCA) at McLaren Vale yesterday. The home side won the toss and decided to bat first with Justin Ifould (41) and Daniel Petrucci (61) adding 55 for the second wicket to get their side into a good position. At 6/172, the day was evenly poised as George Beard joined Stephen Nairn at the crease. This pair put on an unbeaten seventh-wicket stand worth 90 runs to lift the Crushers to 6/262 from their 70 overs. Beard made 52 not out (42 balls), while Nairn finished with 36 not out (57). Veteran Mt Compass opening bowler Aaron Dalitz did a mountain of work taking 3/81 from a marathon 23 overs.

Led by a patient innings from Dane McPhail, Willunga posted a solid 9/211 from their 70 overs in their clash at Victor Harbor yesterday. McPhail anchored the innings with a top-scoring 91 from 187 balls (10 x 4’s), while Brayden Pansini (31) and Eddie Last (23) made handy contributions down the order. Josh Boyko was the star with the ball for the Vipers as he snared 5/66 from 23 overs, while Lachie Hywood took 2/61 from 21 overs.

The game between Yankalilla and Goolwa is at an interesting stage with Goolwa 2/26 at stumps in reply to Yankalilla’s first innings of 134. Batting first at home, ‘Yank’ got themselves into a decent position at 4/102, mainly through a patient half century from Luke Bartlett (51 off 140), before losing their last 6/32. Left-arm spinner James Lawrence took 4/53 (21.1), while Matt Overall took 3/7 (9). This left Goolwa with 11 overs to bat before stumps and they lost Sean McIvor (18) and Andy Evans (7). Overall (1 not out) and Josh Jones (0 not out) will resume the run chase next Saturday.

Cam Bullard made his first century of the 2025/26 season as Noarlunga posted an imposing 8/335 from their 70 overs on day one of their clash at Port Elliot. Bullard opened the batting with Travis Bronstein and this pair added 121 before Bronstein went for 49 (94 balls). Jamie Diener made a hard-hitting 60 (51) in a 100-run third-wicket stand with Bullard, while Sean Williams chipped in with 38 (38). But it was Bullard who was the star of the innings, top scoring with 133 from 166 balls (19 x 4’s, 1 x 6). Darcy Paech (2/40), Joel Harris (2/42) and Ben Martin (2/83) were the leading wicket takers for Port Elliot.

Encounter Bay has the bye.
