Demons back on top in Great Southern Women's Football

Willunga moved back to the top of the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) ‘A’ Grade Women’s ladder after a comprehensive 121-point win against Victor Harbor last Friday night at Willunga. The Demons led by 21 points at quarter time, 49 points at halftime, and 83 points at the last change, before winning 18.16 (124) to 0.3 (3). Jessica Kirk kicked seven goals in a best-on-ground performance, while vice-captain Tamara Page kicked five goals. Other good players for Willunga included Caitlin Radbone, Courtney Gutschmidt, Jodie Hunt, Jessica Harris and Raffael Lombardozzi. Victor Harbor was best served by Rebecca Baga, Chloe Byrne, Maya Overall, Lucy Rubie, Chloe Colman and Annabelle Yelland.


Yankalilla/Encounter Bay won their second game for the season with a 19-point win over Myponga-Sellicks at Encounter Bay yesterday. Scores were level at three-quarter time as the Mudlarks were eyeing off their first win for 2024. However, the Stingrays steadied, kicking three unanswered goals in the final term, to win 6.5 (41) to 3.4 (22). Bella Walden was the leading goalkicker on the field with three goals for Yankalilla/Encounter Bay, while their best players were Tyler Rigney-Garrett, Chloe Howlett, Tahlia Parsons, Natalie Cocks and Lauren Haywood. Best players for Myponga-Sellicks were Nari Wright, Imogen Harney, Courtney Gum, Chloe Boileau and Elsie Upton.


McLaren Districts pulled two games clear in the top-two after an excellent 36-point win over Goolwa/Port Elliot at Encounter Bay yesterday. The Eagles led throughout to run out winners 7.4 (46) to 1.4 (10). Kiahni Russell kicked three goals for the Eagles and their best players were Abby Woodward, Esther Rayner, Donna Boal, Taylah Scapens, Emily Franklin and Ally Bailey. Kalani Bates kicked the only goal for Goolwa/Port Elliot while their best players were Ellie Fry, Bates, Indiana Quaremba, Bridget Lindsay, Rosie Shaw and Rachel Wood.
