Demons, Eagles & Magpies clear out in Great Southern Women's Football

McLaren Districts consolidated their spot in the top-two after defeating Myponga-Sellicks by 44 points during round six action in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) ‘A’ Grade Women’s competition at Myponga yesterday. Kiahni Russell and Ebony Woodward kicked two goals each for the Eagles as they won 6.9 (45) to 0.1 (1). Best players for McLaren Districts were Katrina Munzberg, Caitlin Ross, Abby Woodward, Taylah Scapens, Chelsea Cocks and Sheena Peters. Best players for the Mudlarks included Kailey Webb, Kiarna Falzon and Nari Wright.


Goolwa/Port Elliot won their fight game of the season after taking victory by 26 points against Victor Harbor. ‘Victor’ started well to lead by four points at quarter time, before the Magpies kicked five of the last six goals for the game to win 6.9 (45) to 3.1 (19). Indiana Quaremba kicked two goals in a best-on-ground performance for the Magpies and Kaya Angus also kicked two goals. Other good players for the ‘Maggies’ were Amber McKinlay, Cassie Burrows, Georgina Thomas and Megan Hoad.

N.B. No best players or goalkickers for Victor Harbor were available at the time of publication.


Reigning premier Willunga stayed top of the ladder after a 61-point victory against Yankalilla/Encounter Bay yesterday. The Demons led by 27 points at halftime, before kicking five unanswered goals in the second half to win 10.7 (67) to 1.0 (6). Willunga skipper Jodie Hunt (3) and Bella Rigby (2) were the multiple goalkickers for Willunga, while Natalie Cocks kicked the only goal for the Stingrays. Raffael Lombardozzi, Rigby, Kirstin Remfrey, Caitlin Radbone, Mia Nolan-Grigg and Courtney Gutschmidt were named best for the Demons. Best players for the Stingrays included Matisse Hunter, Chloe Howlett and Kimberly Robinson.
