Demons in good form in Great Southern Football

Willunga moved up to third spot on the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) ladder after defeating Goolwa/Port Elliot by a whopping 163 points during round five action at Willunga yesterday. The Demons led by 60 points at halftime, and kicked a further 19 goals to two in the second half to win 31.16 (202) to 5.9 (39). The Demons had 10 different goalkickers with Dylan Draper leading the way with seven majors. Draper was well supported by Daniel Nobes (6), Sam Renney (4), Harry Saunders (4) and Cam Hutchens (3). Best players for Willunga included Saunders, Sam Renney, Draper, Brett Miegel, Nobes and Cameron McDonald. Best players for the Magpies were Ken Angus, Jayden Davis, Jye Bottroff, Kai Iwao, Jesse Bates and Riley Davis. 


Reigning premier Myponga-Sellicks won their third game in a row with a 31-point win at Mt Compass. The Mudlarks led at every break on their way to a 14.12 (96) to 9.11 (65) victory. Darren Shillabeer (4) and Jayden Scott (3) were the leading goalkickers for the Mudlarks, while Tom Pinyon also kicked four majors for Mt Compass and Tom Vitkunas kicked three. Mitchell Wilkins, Scott Ogilvie, Anthony Kempster, Connor Sampson, Luke Whitford and James Hutchinson were named best for Myponga-Sellicks, while Mt Compass was best served by Tom Vitkunas, Nathan Schulz, Lochie Nash, Will Zimmermann, Brandon Mckenzie and Harry Wilcock.


Victor Harbor remained undefeated following their convincing 105-point win at Yankalilla yesterday. The Roos won every quarter as they ran out winners 22.20 (152) to 6.11 (47). ‘Victor’ had 11 different goalkickers with Sam Basham and Bryce Gibbs kicking four goals each. Kim Kantilla and Thaddeus Puautjimi kicked three goals each for the Tigers. Best players for Victor Harbor included Zac Dowling, Ben Heaslip, Jaidan Kappler, Jackson Elmes, Matthew Wiese and Clayton Mesecke. ‘Yank’ was best served by Kim Kantilla, Patrick Chay, Oaklee Major, Puautjimi, Jesse Fitzgerald and Jack Fitzgerald.


An 11-goal bag to best-on-ground Tyson Neale has fired Encounter Bay up to fourth spot on the ladder after a convincing 134-point victory over Strathalbyn. The Bays led all day to win 23.16 (154) to 3.2 (20). Other good players for Encounter Bay included Nick Marshall (3 goals), Ryan Pearsons (3 goals), Hamish Tonkin, Callum Tonkin and Andrew Fyfe. Declan Grant kicked two goals for the Roosters, while their best players were Declan Gladigau, Liam Newton, Zac Edwards, James Scott and Lachlan Cutting.


McLaren Districts consolidated their position in the top-three after a 35-point win at Langhorne Creek. The first half was a tight affair, with McLaren Districts leading by just two points at the main break. The Eagles’ win was set up by five goals to one in the third term, which saw the visitors turn for home with a 28-point lead. A further four goals to three in the final quarter saw McLaren Districts win 17.13 (115) to 12.8 (80). Josh Vandermeer kicked six goals in a best-on-ground display for the Eagles, while Jarrod Kellock and Lachie Bates kicked three goals each for the Hawks. Other good players for the Eagles included Codey Ellison, Kaine Hopkins, Lachlan Mathews, Luke Mitton and Harrison Evans. Best players for Langhorne Creek were Henry Bruce, Matt Dominish, Tom Derham, Bates, Tasman Follett and Jack Hall.
