Willunga has knocked Mount Compass out of the finals race after a thrilling one-point win in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) elimination final at Myponga yesterday. Scores were tied at the end of ‘regular’ time, so extra time was needed, with Willunga coming out on top 11.14 (80) to 12.7 (79). The game was tight throughout with scores level at halftime, while Mount Compass held a one-point lead at the last change. Daniel Lee kicked three goals for the Demons, while Mount Compass star forward Tom Pinyon slotted six majors. Daniel Bass was named best player for Willunga and he was well supported by Jack Redden, Sam Renney, Nick Scanlan and Jake Shirvington. Pinyon was named best for ‘Compass’ with support from Ziggy Vitkunas, Jordan Hooper, Shane Heatley and Rilee Endersby.
Myponga-Sellicks defeated Victor Harbor by three points to advance to the second semi-final where they’ll face reigning premier McLaren Districts on Saturday. The Mudlarks are looking for their first ‘A’ grade flag since 1984 and are now just one win away from the decider. On Saturday at McLaren Vale, Myponga-Sellicks trailed by six points at quarter time, before an excellent second term saw them take a handy 17-point lead at halftime. ‘Victor’ kicked six goals to four in the second half, but the Mudlarks hung on to win 11.10 (76) to 11.7 (73). Jake Spinks was dangerous up forward for Myponga-Sellicks with four goals, while Sam Basham also kicked four goals for the ‘Roos. Levi Proude, Anthony Kempster, Daniel Trevena, Ben Kennedy and Elliott Chalmers were named as best players for the Mudlarks, while best players for Victor Harbor included Dylan Kleinig, Zac Dowling, Rhys Mutch, Jackson Elmes and Matthew Wiese.
