Alexandrina Council will host drop-in information sessions on Wednesday 18 September at both Strathalbyn and Port Elliot about co-located housing and the draft Future Living Code Amendment.
The draft planning rules aim to enhance housing diversity for South Australians and provide more affordable options for different households, life stages and lifestyle choices.
It would introduce a new form of housing that allows more homes to be built in established residential suburbs, without impacting the existing character, heritage and streetscape.
It encourages existing houses to be retained, altered and extended to create co-located housing, rather than demolished and the site subdivided for multiple homes.
The new co-located housing model would help preserve mature trees and established gardens, as well as build a greater sense of community, by providing shared open space rather than small private gardens.
The draft Future Living Code Amendment would apply to well-established neighbourhoods in six council areas, including Alexandrina.
The Port Elliot session will be held from 10am to 12 noon at the RSL on The Strand and the Strathalbyn session will be held from 3pm to 5pm at St Andrews Hall in Alfred Place, both on Wednesday 18 September. Each session will start with a presentation.
More information and an online survey can be found on the YourSAy Future Living webpage.
