The rules governing dogs in the City of Onkaparinga is under review, with the council proposing to remake By-law 7 Dogs.
The by-law, which is due to expire on 1 January 2023 is intended to manage dogs in the council area, reduce incidence of environmental nuisance caused by dogs, to promote responsible dog ownership and to protect the convenience, comfort and safety of members of the public.
The council has called on Onkaparinga residents to have a say on the by-law, with a community consultation process running for several weeks.
This consultation is focussed on establishing council’s policy position on dog on-leash areas, dog prohibited areas and protecting Hooded Plovers.
The proposed by-law also provides council with the power to grant exemptions in specific emergency situations in areas where dogs are required to be on-leash or prohibited.
Full details of the by-law and how to have a say are on the City of Onkaparinga website.
A hard copy is available at the City of Onkaparinga, Noarlunga office during office hours.
Consultation closes at 5pm on 26 May.
