Does Strathalbyn need a dog park? The Alexandrina Council is considering installing one and is asking for community feedback on the idea.
The proposed park would be located at the corner of Langhorne Creek Road and Berry Smith Drive.
To establish the site as off-leash dog park the council will need to install lawn areas, off-street parking, secure fencing, seating and shelter and a drinking fountain and bowl for the dogs.
The Strathalbyn Dog Lovers group approached council with a concept for a local dog park in 2019.
Alexandrina Council established a dog park at Port Elliot in 2013 which is very popular with locals on the South Coast.
The Friends of the Port Elliot Dog Park help to look after the park and members organise special events for small dogs and greyhounds.
Many of the features of the park were made and installed by local volunteers and the park has become a valuable place for dogs and their owners/servants to socialise.
It now has a bridge, tunnels and even a water tank for fresh water for the visiting pooches.
