As part of Veteran’s Health Week – 24 October to 1 November – the Victor Harbor RSL will arrange and manage a walk in support of post traumatic stress disorder sufferers.
The walk will start between 12noon and 12.30pm on Saturday 24 October from the Soldier’s Memorial Reserve, on the Esplanade at Victor Harbor.
The route will travel along the Esplanade to Kent Reserve and return to the Soldier’s Memorial Reserve.
The Walk 4 PTSD aims to show all current and former members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) that they are not forgotten and that the community is appreciative of their service and sacrifice.
It will also highlight the mental health issues that ADF members may suffer as a result of their service and that there are mechanisms and organisations able to help while they are still serving or after transitioning into civilian life.
The walk will raise funds to assist in the training and deployment of PTSD dogs to veterans who need them, by engaging with the Royal Society for the Blind Operation K9 program.
Members of the community are asked to join in the walk and take along their own dogs to participate.
A sausage sizzle will be held prior to the walk, starting at 11am, with live music and guest speakers.
Operation K9 program puppies and service dogs will be there to charm the crowd and join in the walk.
Register online to join in the walk and find out how to help.
