Double delight for Stingrays Women

It was another great day for the Southern Districts Women as the SACA Premier Cricket T20 competitions continued on Sunday. The first grade moved into second spot on the ladder with a 32-run victory over Northern Districts at Park 25. Batting first, the Stingrays posted a very competitive total of 5/130 from their 20 overs. Hannah Sampson was the star with an undefeated 49 from just 53 balls. Amy Peterson (16 not out) and Jess O’Reilly (13) also contributed handy runs. The total was boosted by a whopping 35 extras! Adelaide Strikers youngster Darcie Brown snared 3/27 from her four overs for the Jets. Northern Districts’ run chase began well with the score sitting at 1/59 at one stage before a batting collapse of 6/25 snuffed out any chance of victory. Mary Waldron was the mainstay of the innings with a fine 39 from 43 balls and she was ably supported by Neisha Iles with 18 not out. Kelly Armstrong continued her excellent season with the ball snaring 3/14 from four overs. Armstrong now has eight wickets from five games and is the leading wicket taker in the competition.

Southern Districts second grade won their fourth consecutive game to sit top of the ladder after four rounds with a tight 13-run win over Northern Districts at The Paddocks. The Stingrays were sent into bat and struggled to 3/36 before an excellent 38-run fourth wicket stand between Febi Mansell (27 not out) and Kendall Howell (27) lifted the total to 6/97. The Jets run chase started well to reach 1/54 before the Stingrays turned the screws and restricted the score to 6/84 at the end of the 20 overs. Kendall Howell continued her excellent game taking 2/11 and there were wickets for Mansell, Keely Stone, Jessica Modistach and Alecia Holt.

Next Sunday the first grade have a double header at Park 25 (Oval 3) with the first game against ladder leader Kensington from 10.30am with the second game at 1.40pm against West Torrens. The second grade also take on West Torrens from 1.00pm at Bice Oval.
