Drink driver's car catches fire

A P plater has been caught drink driving after his car caught alight at Aldinga overnight.

About 12.25am on Sunday 16 July, police and CFS crews were called to Plains Road after a teenager reported his car on fire.

When police arrived, flames were coming from the rear of a Ford ute however the owner had explained to officers that the engine had overheated while driving.

On further inspection, police could see that both rear tyres had popped off the rims.

Police believe that the driver had popped both tyres doing a burn out and then attempted to drive home on its rims. The back end of the ute has subsequently overheated and caught on fire.

Thankfully no one was injured.

The driver was breath tested and allegedly produced a blood alcohol reading of 0.134, more than three times the legal limit for a fully licensed driver. Checks showed that he was a provisional licence holder.

The 17-year-old Aldinga boy was reported for aggravated misuse of a motor vehicle, drink driving and two counts of breaching his provisional conditions by breaching midnight curfew and drink driving.

He was issued with an instant six month loss of licence, his vehicle was impounded for 28 days and his vehicle was defected. He will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
