Drivers caught breaking the road rules

Hills Fleurieu police have been busy on the roads in the lead-up to the Easter long weekend, with one reckless driver caught breaking the road rules twice in 24 hours.

About 11.45am on Tuesday 30 March Mount Barker patrols stopped a 47-year-old woman from Happy Valley on Cherington Street. Checks revealed she was driving without a licence. She also returned a positive test to methamphetamine and was drug diverted for possession of methamphetamine and an ice pipe. She was arrested and bailed to appear in court on 12 May.

Less than 24 hours later, about 6.35am on Wednesday 31 March, police again saw her driving on Battunga Road, Meadows. She was arrested for driving unlicenced and breaching bail. She was bailed to Mount Barker Magistrates Court on 12 May.

About 8.50am on Wednesday 31 March, police stopped a 51-year-old man from Mount Barker on Wellington Road, Mount Barker. Checks revealed he was driving disqualified and he returned a positive test to methamphetamine. He was arrested and bailed to the Mount Barker Magistrates Court on 12 May. Additional charges may be added after analysis of the drug test.

About 1pm on Wednesday 31 March, Mount Barker patrols stopped a 38-year-old man from Mount Barker on the South Eastern Freeway, Bridgewater. Checks revealed he was driving while disqualified. He was arrested for driving disqualified and bailed to the Mount Barker Magistrates Court on 12 May. He also tested positive to methamphetamine and may face further charges once the drug test analysis is complete.

About 6.50pm on Wednesday 31 March, Strathalbyn police stopped a 34-year-old man from Macclesfield on Manse Road, Strathalbyn. Checks revealed he was on a probationary driver’s licence. He tested positive to methamphetamine and was issued a 24-hour driver direction notice preventing him from driving. He was reported for driving under the influence and will be summonsed to court at a later date.

About 3.30am on Thursday 1 April police stopped a 26-year-old woman from Balhannah on Onkaparinga Road, Balhannah. She returned a positive sample to methamphetamine and was issued a 24-hour driver direction notice preventing her from driving. She may face further charges once her drug test results have been forensically analysed.

Police are disgusted with the blatant disregard for road rules shown by these drivers, especially in the lead up to the Easter long weekend. Drink and drug driving is unacceptable and puts many innocent people’s lives at risk. Police urge motorists to drive safely this Easter.
