Dusty and windy conditions expected tomorrow (Thursday, 19 September) have prompted the State Emergency Service (SES) to issue a warning to motorists and those with pre-existing medical conditions on the Fleurieu and other areas of the state.
Strong northerly winds as the result of a cold front passing through may cause large clouds of fine dust and dust haze in many parts of the state, including the Fleurieu Peninsula and Adelaide.
SES Chief of Staff Darryl Wright says motorists needed to take extra care and be vigilant when driving tomorrow.
“If the visibility is reduced, take extra precautions such as turning your headlights on, allow safe braking distances, and drive to the conditions,” Mr Wright says.
SA Health have echoed the warnings, cautioning that people with pre-existing medical conditions such as asthma and pulmonary disease may also be at risk tomorrow.
“People can protect themselves by staying inside during dusty conditions, with the doors and windows closed,” Mr Wright says.
Strong winds associated with the front may also increase the risk of trees or branches falling.
“Where possible, people should avoid being around large trees during strong winds, and secure loose items, such as trampolines,” Mr Wright says.
