The Rotary Club of Goolwa has joined a national effort to improve the safety of domestic violence victims.
Originating in Queensland, the DV Safe Phone project collects mobile phones that are still usable but no longer needed by their owners.
Collected phones are wiped and, if necessary, repaired, then supplied free to domestic violence survivors via more than 360 DV and law enforcement agencies, safe houses and hospitals around Australia.
Goolwa Rotary is urging south coast residents to clean out their drawers and drop any old working mobile phones at one of the collection points.
There are DV Safe collection boxes at Goolwa Village shopping centre, next to the bulletin board and at The Haven, in Goolwa library.
The phones don’t need to have chargers or cases, but must be working; it's a small way to make a practical difference to people in need.
