The District Council of Yankalilla has taken delivery of the first of three eTrikes, which will enable independent wheelchair access to tracks and trails throughout the region.

The eTrike is designed for active users who want to go further, faster or tackle more challenging terrain and for those who would like some assistance to travel off road.

The three electric-assisted wheelchairs will be piloted as part of the Opening the Door to Nature project.

The council is also awaiting delivery of three MT Push (attendant) chairs.

Yankalilla Council is the lead proponent in the project in partnership with other councils.

The pilot program will identify trails suitable for short and extended experiences and develop a comprehensive toolkit for host organisations and users.

The three eTrikes will be deployed as a group at each partner location, on a rotation basis, with one MT Push available at each partner location throughout the duration of the trial.

Council is seeking Expressions of Interest for people with a lived experience of a disability who would like to get involved with the pilot program.
