Eagles soar to second spot on the GSFLW ladder

McLaren Eagles moved up to second spot on the ladder following their 13-point win against Goolwa/Port Elliot during round 12 action in the FPAG ‘A’ Grade Women’s competition in the Great Southern Football League yesterday. It was a tight clash at Goolwa with the Eagles coming out on top 3.6 (24) to 1.5 (11). Tiffany Copley, Sheena Peters and Lauren Reynolds were the goalkickers for McLaren, while the Magpies’ only goal was kicked by Jessica Bailey. Best players for McLaren were Ruby Flanagan-Sjoberg, Ally Bailey, Katie Whish, Layla Rogers and Sam Pratt. Best for the Magpies were Renee Moon, Tracey O’Donnell, Hannah Crump, Kerrie-Ann Moon and Laura Jones.


Yankalilla won their third game in a row to sit just one win outside the top-four following their 13-point win against Mount Compass on Saturday night. The Tigers led by 10 points at halftime before winning 3.7 (25) to 2.0 (12). Helen Maidment kicked two goals for Yankalilla, while Kailey Webb and Emma Zimmermann were the goalkickers for Mount Compass. Kimberley Rowe, Demy Zahradnik, Nari Wright, Madi Munro and Jemma Ellis were named best players for the Tigers. Best for the Bulldogs included Brooke Boileau, Georgina Thomas and Tyler Rigney-Garrett.


Willunga sewed up the minor premiership with a 38-point win against Strathalbyn on Friday night. The first half was an even affair with Willunga leading by just four points at halftime. After the long break it was all the Demons as they kicked five goals to zero to win 7.10 (52) to 2.2 (14). Best players for the Demons were Katrice Turner, Cleo Guilfoyle, Patty Sommerville, Caitlin Radbone and Chelsea Farr. The Roosters were best served by Tess Huxtable, Eliza Fergusen, Emma Chapman, Courtney Mesecke and Megan Rich. Willunga’s Shae Archbold was the leading goalkicker on the field with two goals. 


Victor Harbor had the bye.
