Eagles soar up the ladder in Great Southern Women's 'A' grade

McLaren Districts moved up to second spot on the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) FPAG ‘A’ Grade Women’s ladder after defeating Yankalilla/Encounter Bay Stingrays by 35 points at Encounter Bay last Friday night. The Eagles led at every change before running out winners 8.7 (55) to 3.2 (20). Caitlin Ross (3) and Layla Rogers (2) were the multiple goalkickers for McLaren Districts, while Annabella Walden kicked two goals for the Stingrays. Best players for McLaren Districts were Katie Whish, Ross, Jessica Hutton, Katrina Munzberg and Rogers. The Stingrays were best served by Chloe Howlett, Jemma Ellis, Walden, Jaimi Griffen and Dakota Oniszk.


Reigning premier Willunga moved another step closer to the minor premiership following their 26-point win against Goolwa/Port Elliot. The Demons led by just two points at halftime, before kicking five goals to one in the second half to win 9.5 (59) to 5.3 (33). Emily Steele, Jodie Hunt and Ada Anninos kicked two goals each for the Demons, while Kalani Bates kicked two goals for the Magpies. Best players for Willunga included Anninos, Lauren Clifton, Kiara Upitis, Katrice Turner and Caitlin Radbone. Goolwa/Port Elliot’s best were Bates, Laura Jones, Tessa Grant, Indi Miller and Renee Moon.


Myponga-Sellicks made it two wins on the trot with a tight 10-point victory against Victor Harbor. ‘Victor’ started well to lead by 14 points at quarter time, before the Mudlarks kicked three goals to none in the second term to take a seven-point lead at halftime. The second half was a real arm wrestle with the Mudlarks kicking the only goals to win 4.9 (33) to 2.11 (23). Molly Agnew, Imogen Harney, Tara Ludlow, Nari Wright and Charlie Shaw-McMillan were amongst the best players for Myponga-Sellicks. Best for Victor Harbor included Lily Harrison, Lily Jinks, Lucie Rubie, Nicole Mark and Skye Kartinyeri-Sumner.
