Emus into the top-five in the Southern Football League

Morphett Vale consolidated their spot in the top-five on the Southern Football League (SFL) ladder following their 20-point win at Christies Beach on Saturday. The win was set up by a strong first half that saw the Emus lead by 29 points at halftime. Christies Beach battled hard in the second half, kicking six goals to five, but it was not enough as Morphett Vale won 12.8 (80) to 8.12 (60). Daniel Noble kicked three goals for Morphett Vale, while Nathan Stock kicked two goals for Christies Beach. Best for Morphett Vale were Robert Schindler-Taylor, Anthony Biemans, Scott Carpenter, Noble and Julian Madigan. Josiah Sheppard, Jacob Crate, Aidan Coakley, Bailey Short and Josh Semmens were named best for the Saints.


Reynella continued their undefeated start to the season with a 57-point win against Cove. Reynella have been the standout team through the first third of the season with six wins by an average of 61 points. Bailey Marshman kicked six goals for Reynella in a best-on-ground performance and Marc Borholm kicked four. Mitch Riddle and Lincoln Hodder kicked two goals each for the Cobras. Other good players for the Wine Flies were Sam Whitbread, Cameron McGree, Luke Cooper and Lachlan McGuinness. Ryan Need, James Farrugia and Nick Battista were among the best players for Cove.


Reigning premier Flagstaff Hill won their third game of the season to move inside the top-five after defeating Aldinga by 83 points on Saturday. ‘Flaggies’ led by 30 points at quarter time, 27 points at halftime and 77 points at the last change before winning 18.15 (123) to 6.4 (40). Flagstaff Hill had eight different goalkickers with Nathan Beenham (5), Michael Shearer (4) and Daniel Butcher (3) leading the way. Jack O’Hanlon was the leading goalkicker for Aldinga with three majors. Best players for the Falcons were Nathan Beenham, Shearer, David Kearsley, Jake Bunworth and Ben Burbridge. Aldinga were best served by Luke Watson, Mitchell Jarrett, Brady O’Hanlon, Scott O’Dea and Bailey Pilmore. 


Happy Valley consolidated their spot in the top-three with a convincing 110-point win against Port Noarlunga. It was an even affair in the first half with Happy Valley holding a slender 10-point lead at the long break. However, the second half was all Happy Valley as they kicked 16 goals to none to win 22.14 (146) to 5.6 (36). The Vikings had plenty of avenues to goal with 12 different goalkickers, including Lee Davis and Ben Ryan who kicked four goals each. Best players for the Vikings were Jayden Little, Ben Geytenbeek, Scott Rademacher, Lachlan Hamilton and Davis, while for ‘Porties’, Josh Johns, McKale O’Flaherty and Jayden Close were among their best players.
