Emus strutting towards finals in the Southern Football League

Morphett Vale confirmed their spot in the 2023 finals series after a comfortable 66-point win against Aldinga during round 16 action in the Southern Football League (SFL) at Aldinga on Saturday. The Emus won every quarter on the way to a 13.8 (86) to 3.2 (20) victory. Daniel Noble (4), Blake Carter (3), Khori Mills-Richardson (3) and Brian Gill (2) were the multiple goalkickers for the Emus, while Cameron Jarrett and Bailey Pilmore were the goalkickers for the Sharks. Best players for Morphett Vale included Gill, Aiden Baker, Harry Clarkson, Connor Lock and Mills-Richardson. Best players for Aldinga were Ryder Kortman, Angus Stangewitz, Sam Bentley, Josiah Sheppard and Pilmore.


Port Noarlunga won their fifth game of the season after defeating Christies Beach by 65 points. The win was set up for ‘Porties’ in the second quarter as they kicked five unanswered goals to lead by a handy 35 points at halftime. A further eight goals to four in the second half saw Port Noarlunga win 15.14 (104) to 6.3 (39). Russell Curyer and Oliver Petrohilos kicked three goals each for the Cockle Divers, while their best players included Jonathon Cook, Jayden Close, James Wood, Tom Dix and Curyer. Best players for the Saints were Josh Newnham, Bailey Roe, Bradley Truscott, Liam Chibnall and Jonty Murphy.


Noarlunga won their sixth game in a row with a 31-point victory at Happy Valley. The Shoes made an excellent start to the game as they kicked five goals to one in the first term to lead by 22 points. The rest of the game was pretty even as Noarlunga eventually triumphed 12.4 (76) to 6.9 (45). Jamie Grosser kicked three goals for Noarlunga, while Corey Grocock and Harry Davenport kicked two goals each for the Vikings. Best players for the Shoes included Nathan Schulz, Sam Beard, Michael Balas, Jamison Snelling and Jake Birch. Happy Valley was best served by Jayden Little, Hayden Kari, Nicholas Frisby-Smith, Harry Vick and Grocock. 


Reynella had a percentage-boosting 159-point win against Cove on Saturday. The Wine Flies led by 52 points at quarter time, 82 points at halftime, and 120 points at the last change, before winning 29.14 (188) to 4.5 (29). Reynella had plenty of avenues to goal with Marc Borholm slotting nine goals (36 for the season), Callan Semple kicked seven on his way to best-on-ground honours, while Bailey Marshman got in on the act with five goals himself. Michael Galley with two goals was the multiple goalkicker for the Cobras. Other good players for the Wine Flies were Sam Whitbread, Tyler Davies and Jacob McDonald. Best players for the Cobras included Galley, Oliver Moore and Corey Jackson.
