Emus take major scalp in Southern Football League

Morphett Vale claimed a major scalp with a 22-point win at Flagstaff Hill during round 12 action in the Southern Football League (SFL) today. The Falcons started the better of the two teams to take an eight-point lead at quarter time, before extending it to 12 points at the long break. Morphett Vale came out firing in the third quarter to kick five goals to one, and they led by 13 points at the last change. A further four goals to two in the last term saw the Emus win 13.6 (84) to 9.8 (62). Dylan Williams kicked six goals in a best-on-ground performance for Morphett Vale and he was well supported by Liam Corrie, Bodie Sowter, Robert Schindler-Taylor, Matthew Thomas and Braydan Hartwig. Daniel Butcher kicked three goals for ‘Flaggies’ with their best players being Brayden Heyward-Ferors, Michael Shearer, Sam Tharaldsen, Huw Channing and David Kearsley.


Noarlunga consolidated their spot in the top-three with a 27-point win against Happy Valley at Old Noarlunga. The game was tight for the first three quarters with the Shoes leading by just four points at the last change. The home side finished strongly in the last quarter as they kicked four goals to zero to win 10.12 (72) to 6.9 (45). Vic Robertson was a standout up forward for the Shoes with five goals, while Jaidan Kappler kicked two. Dwayne Ruddock kicked two goals for Happy Valley. Best players for Noarlunga were Jake Anderson, Robertson, Jarrad Liebelt, Bailey Snelling and Kappler. Tate Coleman, Nick Frisby-Smith, Liam Hamilton, Matthew Lillis and Scott Rademacher were best for the Vikings.


Aldinga won their third game of the season with a tight nine-point victory against Port Noarlunga at Shark Park. Aldinga led at every change before winning a low-scoring encounter 7.10 (52) to 6.7 (43). Cameron Jarrett kicked two goals for Aldinga, while Philip Brown also kicked two goals for Port Noarlunga. Best players for Aldinga included Matthew Beinke, Bailey Pilmore, Angus Stangewitz, Luke Watson and Tyler Flintham. ‘Porties’ were best served by Liam O’Connor-Dawkins, Jordan Zeitz, Josh Johns, McKale O’Flaherty and Alex McKay.


Reynella moved a step closer to the minor premiership as they notched a comfortable 41-point victory at Christies Beach. The Wine Flies led by five points at quarter time, nine points at halftime, and 20 points at three quarter time, before kicking six goals to two in the last term to win 11.16 (82) to 6.5 (41). Callan Semple and Brad Potter kicked three goals each for Reynella, while Andrew Crate and Nathan Stock kicked two goals each for the Saints. Best players for the Wine Flies were Nick Dixon, Potter, Sam Whitbread, Liam Reid and Daniel Whitaker. James Conlon. Aidan Coakley and Josiah Sheppard were among the best players for Christies Beach.
