Emus win their second game for 2023 in the Southern Football League

Morphett Vale won their second game of 2023 with a thrilling three-point win against Cove during round eight action in the Southern Football League (SFL) yesterday at Morphett Vale. The game was tight throughout with Morphett Vale leading by just one point at the last change. Each side kicked three goals in the last quarter as the Emus held on to win 10.4 (64) to 9.7 (61). Dylan Williams starred up forward for the home side with five goals, while Lincoln Holder kicked three goals for the Cobras. Best players for Morphett Vale included Robert Schindler-Taylor, Williams, Jack Dal Santo, Julian Mardigan and Connor Gilby. For the Cobras, Riley Jones, Holder, Michael Galley, Lucas Hill and Ben Morrison were named their sides best players. 


Aldinga won their second game in a row after defeating Christies Beach by 18 points at Bice Oval yesterday. Aldinga led by four points at three-quarter time, before kicking the only two goals of the last quarter to win 8.11 (59) to 5.11 (41). Ishmael Palmer kicked three goals for the Sharks, while Joshua de Roode kicked two goals for the Saints. Ryder Kortman, Angus Stangewitz, Palmer, Bailey Pilmore and Sam Bentley were named best players for Aldinga. Best players for ‘Christies’ included Austin Hogg, Ryan Matthews, de Roode, Shaun King and Nathan Sable.


Flagstaff Hill remained undefeated after defeating Port Noarlunga by 62 points yesterday. The Falcons won every quarter on their way to a 22.10 (142) to 12.8 (80) triumph. Sam Jacobs kicked six goals in a best-on-ground performance for ‘Flaggies’, while Sam Smith, Ryan Mountford and Aiden Grayson kicked three goals each. Nathaniel Paredes (4) and Oliver Petrohilos (2) were the multiple goalkickers for Port Noarlunga. Joining Jacobs in the best players for the Falcons were Reece Milsom, Grayson, Cameron Blake and Adam Bunworth. Best players for ‘Porties’ included Paredes, Darren Walters, Declan Henty-Smith, Jayden Close and Gerard Dutton.


Reigning premier Reynella showed they’ll be a force to be reckoned with again in 2023 with a 43-point win against the previously undefeated Noarlunga. The Wine Flies led by nine points at quarter time, 25 points at halftime, and 56 points at the last change before winning 15.7 (97) to 7.12 (54). Ruckman-Forward Marc Borholm kicked five goals for the Wine Flies and Brad Potter kicked three majors. Bailey Hann and Jaidan Kappler kicked two goals each for the Shoes. Best players for Reynella included Liam Reid, Marc Borholm, Tyler Davies, Sam Whitbread and Jack Ball. The Shoes were best served by Hann, Zachary Williams, Jake Anderson, Terry Kathopoulis and Josh Beard.
