An energy rebate of up to $650 a year for South Australian small businesses has been introduced by the state government.

The energy bill relief came into effect from 1 June.

To be eligible businesses must operate on a separately metered business tariff with their electricity retailer and consume less than 160 megawatts of electricity per year.

Rebates of up to $500 a year are also available for households with a resident who meets the eligibility criteria.
