Alexandrina council is investigating erosion to the riverbank between the Strathalbyn Community Pool and the River Angas.
This is the part of the river that runs through the Soldiers Memorial Gardens.
The council has yet to verify the cause of the problem but suspects it is due to excess water in the embankment.
Work is underway to identify the source of the water, however the council says it has determined that it is not related to the swimming pool structure.
Public access to the affected area has been bunted off, with warning signs put in place.
The council says its priority is to ensure safety in the area while it looks into the issue.
