In the lead up to Neighbour Day on Sunday 26 March the City of Victor Harbor’s Caring Neighbourhood Program is encouraging people to get into the spirit.

The program asks how well do you know your neighbours and suggests showing them an act of kindness.

It says neighbours can play an important role in helping everyone to feel connected.

All acts of kindness, large and small, can grow Victor Harbor’s community-minded nature and inspire further good deeds within the neighbourhood.

Examples might include cooking a meal, having a cuppa over the fence, or offering surplus produce from the veggie garden. 

Help take the bins out for an elderly neighbour or organise a get-together with other households in the street.

Throughout March, the community can share stories and experiences of kindness shared or heard about on the council’s website.

Victor Harbor Mayor Dr Moira Jenkins says Victor Harbor’s resilience is thanks to its wonderful community, and the way people rally together during good and bad times.

“I know there are many instances in our community where individuals have gone above and beyond to support their neighbourhood. In fact, I see acts of kindness almost every day!"

To tackle the issue of loneliness, we need a whole-of-community approach and a commitment to meaningful social connection.

The City of Victor Harbor’s Caring Neighbourhood Program has been operating for over 25 years, offering an inclusive and supportive environment to those who are aged over 65 and feeling isolated or disconnected.
