Explore Nurragi Conservation Reserve at upcoming spring walk

Following the success of their 2023 Autumn Walk, the Friends of Nurragi are inviting the community to their 2024 Spring Walk, offering a unique opportunity to explore the beautiful Nurragi Conservation Reserve. This event, scheduled for Sunday 8 September, promises a day of nature, fresh air, and community spirit.

Participants can choose from two walking distances: 3.7km or 6.9km. The adventure begins at the Milang Railway Station site, where a complimentary bus will transport walkers to their chosen starting point. Accompanied by knowledgeable volunteer guides from the Friends of Nurragi, walkers will make their way back to Milang, enjoying the natural beauty of the reserve along the way.

After the walk, everyone is invited to relax and enjoy a free barbecue lunch at Milang Oval, provided by the Milang Men’s Shed. Organisers says it’s the perfect way to unwind after a morning spent exploring one of the last stands of native vegetation in the district.

The Nurragi Conservation Reserve, once a railway corridor between Sandergrove and Milang, is now a significant wildlife corridor. Home to over 50 rare or threatened flora species and many bird species, it is a vital piece of the region's natural heritage. The reserve is meticulously cared for by the Friends of Nurragi, a dedicated group of volunteers who work tirelessly to preserve its unique natural values.

Event Details:

  • Meeting Point: Milang Railway Station site at Port Milang Railway Museum, Daranda Terrace, Milang.
  • Time: 9am; bus departs at 9.20am.
  • Return Walk: All participants walk back to Milang.
