Falcons and Wine Flies play out a thriller in the Southern Football League Women's competition

Reigning premier Flagstaff Hill handed Reynella their first loss of the season with a thrilling one-point win during round 15 action in the Southern Football League Women’s ‘A’ grade competition yesterday. These two sides played off in the 2021 decider and will do battle again in a fortnight when the finals begin. Reynella started the better of the two sides as they took a 13-point lead at quarter time. Flagstaff Hill fought back in the second term kicking two goals to none to level things up at halftime. Reynella took the lead again in the third term and turned for home with a seven-point lead. The last quarter was a torrid affair with ‘Flaggies’ kicking the only goal of the term to win a thriller 3.5 (23) to 3.4 (22). Melissa Anderson kicked two goals for the Falcons, while Casie Coombe also kicked two goals for the Wine Flies. Best players for Flagstaff Hill were Tamsyn Morriss, Rachel Crockart, Czenya Cavouras, Jasmin Partridge and Jenna Andrews. Best for Reynella were Sarah Bourn, Anja Bancevic, Zannah Loxton, Ella Besley and Catherine Quinn.


Port Noarlunga won their 10th game of the season after winning a thriller against Christies Beach by just two points yesterday at ‘Porties’. It was a tight and low scoring affair with Port Noarlunga prevailing 2.3 (15) to Christies Beach 2.1 (13). Brittany Pratt and Kirsty Watson were the goalkickers for the Cockle Divers. Emily Risitano kicked two goals for the Saints. Skipper Pratt was named best for ‘Porties’ and she was well supported by Ella Slape, Shakira Dolman, Jolie Malinowski, Emma Matonia and Deanna Ortuso. Monique Hepden, Melanie Koster, Emily Stratton-Butler, Naomi Jones, Paige Simmons and Hannah Clarke were named best for the Saints.


Cove Cobras won their third game for 2022 with a comprehensive 192-point win against Hackham. The Cobras led by 100 points at halftime and kicked a further 14 goals in the second half to win 29.19 (193) to 0.1 (1). Cove had an amazing 16 goalkickers with Jemima Buss, Jasmine Dietrich and Rebecca O’Shaughnessy kicking four goals each. Best players for the Cobras included Alesia LeDuff, Nicole May, Dana O’Brien, Jahna Parry and Buss. Best players for the Hawks were Caitlin Haire, Sarah Noble, Emily Unger, Rhylee McCall and Jessica Sherry.
