Fall in love with Fleurieu parks this monthSecond Valley

With natural wonders ranging from stunning beaches to dense forests, the Fleurieu Peninsula truly has something for everyone.

National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is celebrating the diverse parks of the Fleurieu as its March Park of the Month, making the first month of autumn the perfect time to visit.

A program of free or subsidised events will be held across the region, which is an easy daytrip from Adelaide, making it a favourite getaway location for countless South Australians.

The Fleurieu is home to a wide range of unique terrestrial and marine life, with more than 100 species of birds at Deep Creek National Park. It is also the location of the Encounter Marine Park, which runs almost the entire length of the region’s coastline and boasts some of SA’s best snorkelling and dive sites.

NPWS Fleurieu District Ranger Paul Unsworth has lived and worked in the region for more than 20 years and says it is an incredible part of the state.

“Not many other parts of the world have pristine beaches, lush natural environments, an abundance of wildlife and dramatic coastal scenery in such close proximity to a big city.

“As the weather starts to cool down, I highly encourage South Australians to venture to the Fleurieu and see what it has to offer.”

Designed to highlight the wonders of Fleurieu Peninsula parks, the Park of the Month program is as diverse as the parks themselves, with a range of activities on offer., including:

  • Ranger-guided walk on Granite Island.
  • Fire and Recovery Guided-Walk at Stringybark Campground, Deep Creek National Park.
  • Guided accessibility walk, Goondooloo Ridge, Deep Creek National Park.
  • Art in the Park with artist Gilbert Dashorst, Goondooloo Ridge, Deep Creek.
  • Guided snorkelling experience with Experiencing Marine Sanctuaries at Second Valley.

The Fleurieu’s spectacular parks are perfect for everyone of all ages and abilities so take along friends and family but remember to leave pets at home.
